Upper Austria is positioning itself as a region of expertise for applications at the human/machine interface.
Digitalization of healthcare is a great opportunity not only from a medical point of view, but also from an economic perspective. The results of the “Digital Health” funding call show how much innovative strength, creativity and know-how Upper Austrian companies and research institutions can score points with. An international jury of experts has decided that seven out of eleven submitted projects will receive funding from the economic department of the state of Upper Austria. The total investment of the selected projects amounts to 5.15 million euros. 3 million euros of state funding will be provided for this purpose.
AI-Region Upper Austria
Upper Austria is to establish itself as a model region for artificial intelligence and digital humanism by 2030, in which people are placed at the center of technological developments.
In order to further promote the use of artificial intelligence as a groundskemaker for the digital transformation of Upper Austria's economy and industry, the state of Upper Austria has launched the “AI Region Upper Austria” funding call. A total of 34 projects were submitted to the funding call. An international jury of experts has decided that 11 of them should receive funding from the economic department of the state of Upper Austria. The total investment in the selected projects amounts to around 10.5 million euros. Around 8 million euros of state funding will be provided for this purpose.
H2 for Transition
Upper Austria should be perceived as a livable and sustainably active industrial region in 2030.
Through cross-sectoral cooperation, innovation and new technologies, Upper Austria aims to become a pioneer in the energy revolution and an international role model for climate-friendly industrial production. The “ThermoGreenHydrogen” project researches the production, storage and use of hydrogen in combination with thermoelectricity, which converts unused industrial waste heat into electricity. The total investment amounts to 2.5 million euros. Of this, the economic and research department of the state of Upper Austria is funding 1.5 million euros. The project emerged from the “H2 for Transition” call for proposals in spring 2024.
Future Energy Technologies
Upper Austria should be perceived as a livable and sustainably active industrial region in 2030.
Upper Austria has set itself the goal of further expanding its position as a region for “responsible technologies” in the energy sector by developing new technologies and optimising existing technologies. One of several measures as part of #upperVISION2030 is the “Future Energy Technologies” funding call, which was launched in May 2023. An international jury of experts has recommended seven projects for funding. The total investment of the selected projects amounts to 4.68 million euros. Around 3 million euros of state funding from the economic and research department will be provided for this purpose.
Future Mobility
Upper Austria successfully mastered the structural change in the area of mobility in 2030.
The future of mobility is being decided now. Upper Austria's suppliers are positioning themselves as innovative technology partners. With the “Future Mobility” funding call for proposals, Upper Austria as an automotive location is receiving new impetus that makes it even more fit for the future. An international jury of experts has recommended six projects for funding. The total investment of the selected projects amounts to 5.84 million euros. 4.3 million euros of state funding will be provided for this purpose.

Thanks to the cooperation of all political, economic and scientific forces, Upper Austria is a dynamic and cosmopolitan model region of the resulting digital humanism.
In economic and research strategy #upperVISION2030, Upper Austria has set itself the clear goal of actively shaping digital transformation and achieving a leading position in the process. The “Digital Transformation” funding call was launched in autumn 2021. An international jury from the FFG research funding agency has recommended the lead project “TraceMe” for funding. The project for digitization in mechanical and plant engineering comprises a total investment of 2.6 million euros and is funded by the economic department of the state of Upper Austria with 1.2 million euros.

Upper Austria will be perceived as a livable and sustainably active industrial region in 2030.
As a result of the “Circular Economy” funding call, the Economic and Research Department of the State of Upper Austria is funding six projects in the field of circular economy. 63 companies and research institutions took part in the funding call, thus demonstrating Upper Austria's high level of competence in the field of circular economy. An international jury has selected the six most promising projects, which will receive a total of 3.35 million euros in funding from the state of Upper Austria.
